PLANTIS: The Plant-Based Fining Agent Range that makes a difference in winemaking

PLANTIS is a range of fining agents based on allergen-free and plant-based proteins that allows wineries to produce high quality wines by replacing traditional methods meeting the growing demand from vegan and vegetarian consumers, while being environmentally sustainable.

Innovation and continuous research have enabled Enartis to create PLANTIS, a range of plant-based protein fining agents that allow winemakers to produce high-quality and vegan-friendly wines comparable with traditional animal-derived fining agents such as gelatin, casein, and egg albumin.

The PLANTIS range offers antioxidant fining agents obtained from pea or potato proteins, which are free of GMOs and allergen-free. These products guarantee the elimination of undesirable compounds starting from the earliest stages of winemaking. Each formulation is developed to improve flocculation speed and fining efficiency. They can be used either in static clarification or flotation, leading to sensory improvement and a longer wine shelf-life.

Using PLANTIS range ensures: 

  • A fast and efficient juice clarification, minimizing lees content.
  • Elimination of unwanted compounds that can alter the final quality of wine such as oxidized or easily oxidizable polyphenols.
  • Reduction of the concentration of heavy metals involved in oxidation reactions, especially iron.
  • Improved sensory quality, with better cleanliness, aromatic freshness, greater preservation of youthful and brilliant colors, while reducing astringency and bitterness.
  • Reduction of the oxidized color, browning
  • Extension of wine’s shelf-life.

    PLANTIS AF is a wine fining agent based on pure pea protein, capable of accelerating floc formation. It is especially effective for: 

    • Static or flotation juice clarification 
    • Increasing wine’s oxidation resistance by reducing the content of iron as well as oxidized or easily oxidizable phenolic substances such as catechins.

    PLANTIS AF-L
    PLANTIS AF-L is the liquid formulation of the original PLANTIS AF. This wine fining agents is based on pure pea protein in liquid solution and it has the same effectiveness of accelerating floc formation as its granular formulation, making the process faster and easier.
    It is especially selective for:

    • Static or flotation juice clarification 
    • Increasing wine’s oxidation resistance by reducing the content of iron as well as oxidized or easily oxidizable phenolic substances such as catechins.

    PLANTIS AF-Q
    PLANTIS AF-Q is a plant based blend for wine fining composed of hydrolyzed pea protein boosted with activated chitosan. The synergy between the two optimizes its clarifying action. It ensures good clarification and more compact lees, especially when used in flotation. At the same time, it improves juice and wine resistance to oxidation by removing pro-oxidant metals and low molecular weight polyphenols.

    PLANTIS PQ
    PLANTIS PQ is a plant based wine fining agent made from potato proteins and enhanced with activated chitosan.
    Two things make this product unique:

    • Potato protein and chitosan hydrolysis levels are optimized for the best wine clarification performance.
    • The high charge density allows for maximum reactivity.
